About

 Amongst the shores of Wisconsin.

Spun of ephemeral lore, reclaimed golds, and talismanic jewels, The North Way Studio weaves amulets that hearken back to another time, unfurling in a tapestry of light.

Composed to enchant, endure, and illuminate the feverish magic of love.

The Tale

After being trained as an apprentice under two goldsmiths in Wisconsin years ago now, Maria uses quite a few different approaches to creation.

Some amulets begin as drawings in her sketchbook and are rendered in CAD with the help of the Casting House in Chicago.
Others begin as tiny hand-carved leaves emerging from plain gold stock, or as blank waxes at the bench by Maria.

All of Maria's waxes are then cast in domestically refined metals through the lost-wax casting method. They are then bejeweled through setting by the Casting House, engraved, hissed-over by Maria for many more hours, textured, carved, prongs refined, and carved even more before she takes them to the windows for their moment of light in front of her camera.

It is a dream of Maria's to do everything herself once again, but with the demand of creations that is currently not possible. With the new flagship location, Maria hopes to be hiring another goldsmith within the next year now that there is finally room to breathe and create.
