Warm-Toned Diamonds

Warm-Toned Diamonds: Champagne, Salt and Pepper, and Fancy Yellow

There is a particular kind of jewel I’m finding myself drawn to this summer: natural champagne diamonds, champagne salt and pepper diamonds, and some yellow stones, all of them golden and honeyed. We have a beautiful gathering in the Misfits collection right now.

Warm-toned diamonds are like the light comes through a window in the last hour before dusk. Some are soft and golden like champagne in a glass. Some are full of tiny flecks of grey and black that seemingly move and flicker as your hand dances about. Some are saturated all the way through with yellow, deep like bronzed earth or pale like wheat.

Every single one is from the earth, formed over more than a million years, and no two are alike. Each warm color is its own little creature, its own tale of magic.

Champagne Diamonds

Champagne is usually the first warm stone someone falls for. The stones read as a soft brownish gold, never loud, and they sit so beautifully in yellow and rose gold because the metal warms them even more. Read more about our golds at The North Way Studio.

There is something about a champagne diamond in a carved setting that looks lived-in from the very first day you wear it, like it belongs to a ring your grandmother might have left you. I think this is why people keep coming back to them.

Champagne Salt and Pepper Diamonds

I could talk about salt and pepper diamonds all day. They hold little inclusions of black and grey suspended inside the stone. When that happens inside a champagne stone you get warmth and movement together, shadows against the golden hours.

Those inclusions are what give the stone its character, not a flaw in its clarity. Every one is wildly different from the next. If you have ever wanted a diamond that no one else on earth could possibly be wearing, look here first.

Fancy Yellow and Yellow Diamonds

The yellows are the boldest of all the warm stones, and the bravest choice. Fancy yellow stones are the most saturated of all, a real sunlit gold, and the yellows just below that carry the same glow in a gentler, paler way.

In gold they are pure warmth. Against a cooler metal they turn almost electric. These are for the person who wants their diamond to be seen as a color first and a sparkle second.

A little about choosing a stone

All of these are loose stones, which means each one is still waiting for its setting. Any of them can be brought into our Heirloom Settings here at the studio, and I am always happy to talk colorways with you and help you find the gold that suits the stone.

Warm diamonds look like a different jewel on every hand and in every light, so do not be shy about asking questions before you decide.

If one of them has already caught your eye, send along an email before it goes home with someone else. The Misfits move quickly.

With warmth,

Maria
